Wednesday February 6-Video Update

Hi all,

Thanks for keeping in touch through this site. I've had lots of great feedback and am very glad that the site has proven to be helpful in keeping everyone up to date! I've finally been able to publish the video blog so here goes. If the video isn't visible click on this link...

And honestly I wouldn't be ready for a few decades anyway. You wouldn't believe the mess Reagan is making. There's shackles to clean, roasting spits to buff up... Oh my.

So my open heart surgery is scheduled for February 19th @ UCSF Parnassus 505 Parnassus in the Heart Center. I will be in ICU for the first couple of days and then transfered into a private room for another 4-6 days.

Feel free to visit me after the 2nd day. I'm sure I won't be in any mood to take visitors on the first couple of days.

I feel very comfortable and confident with the whole process. I will be having a new aortic valve inserted and as well as having my aortic root replaced with synthetic tubing. I'm leaning towards a tissue valve instead of a mechanical valve. With a mechanical valve I would have to take anticoagulants for the rest of my life which increases the risk of bleeding in case of a traumatic internal injury were to occur. With the tissue valve I would have to repeat the open heart surgery in 20 years. Medicine may evolve by then to make the process easier.

I'll keep posting each week until the surgery date and then have someone update this page during the surgery process since I won't be able to do it for a couple of weeks after the surgery.

Thanks for all the well wishes and prayers. I look forward to having this operation over with but an very grateful and blessed that my doctor was very persistent to finding out what was wrong in the first place!
